Are only products made by women allowed?2022-05-17T14:34:54+00:00

All winemakers and distillers, both male and female, can enter the Lumo Awards and all products will be judged on merit.

If your winery or distillery has a woman at the helm, she will be eligible to be awarded a trophy for “Woman Winemaker of the Year” or “Woman Distiller of the Year”.

Should I only enter products that I think women would like?2022-10-20T11:43:30+00:00

The judges use quality as their only guideline, and judge all products on merit.
Women make up a significant percentage of the wine and spirit-buying public, yet surprisingly few marketing drives target women specifically. The Lumo Awards is the only competition in South Africa solely judged by women to make recommendations on what to buy and constitutes an increasingly important marketing tool.

What awards are given?2022-10-20T11:44:05+00:00

The Lumo Awards will confer silver, gold and double gold awards to signify good quality. The trophies to be awarded are:

  • Best Cap Classique
  • Best red wine on show
  • Woman Winemaker of the Year
  • Woman Distiller of the Year
Do I have to order stickers for awarded entries?2022-05-19T07:47:55+00:00

You’re not obligated to order stickers; if you do not want any, indicate the number on the entry form as 0 (zero). Once the results have been revealed, you have to take the number of stickers you indicated. Stickers will be available approximately two weeks after the winners have been notified.

How much does it cost to enter the event?2023-10-10T11:40:09+00:00
  • Early bird entries are R995 excluding VAT per entry from 17 April to 13 June 2024.
  • Normal entries are R1275 excluding VAT per entry from 14 June to midnight 25 July 2024.
  • Stickers will be available at R455 excluding VAT for a roll of 1000.
How many samples are needed per entry?2022-05-19T07:48:37+00:00

A wine sample has to comprise only three 750ml bottles and a spirit sample has to comprise only two 750ml bottles, or the volumetric equivalent thereof.

Will the tastings be audited?2022-05-19T07:48:58+00:00

The tasting procedure will be audited to ensure the judges are not influenced; and the tastings are done blind and conform to international standards.
